Course Overview

Are you ready to conduct professional qualitative research interviews that discover and explore customers' attitudes and behaviors at a deeper level? The kind that uncovers insights that can elevate customer experience, drive marketing excellence, or even fuel breakthrough innovation? If so, the Qualitative Interviewing Mastery Lab is designed for you.

The truth is, even the most well-intentioned researchers sometimes struggle with interviews. It's easy to end up with vague or biased responses, miss the mark on research objectives, or worse—leave remote monitoring clients underwhelmed. These challenges can be frustrating, especially when you’re genuinely trying to do great work.

Sometimes, these issues arise simply because interviewers haven't been exposed to the research-backed theories and best practices that ensure high-quality interviews. Fortunately, this is a relatively easy problem to fix with the right guidance (and material).

In other cases, researchers know the best practices but find it difficult to confidently handle the various challenges that arise during live interviews. Whether it’s asking effective probing questions or managing difficult participant dynamics, making the leap from learning to doing is always harder than it sounds. Here, the solution is practice, practice, practice.

This course is designed for both scenarios—whether you need to learn the theories, build confidence through practice, or both.

What makes this course unique: Before now, getting quick and accessible research interviewing practice was practically unheard of. But not anymore!

The course includes access to IDI Rockstar Pro—our advanced AI tool that lets you conduct simulated IDIs with avatars acting as research participants. This allows you to practice your techniques in a risk-free environment, giving you the chance to develop and polish your skills before working with human participants.

In addition to up to five IDI roleplays with our avatars, you’ll have access to handy job aids, engaging video lessons, and go-to reference materials that will amp up your skills and confidence. These resources will help you transition smoothly from learning to doing, so that when it’s time to conduct real interviews, you’re ready to be a research rockstar.

Upon course completion, students are able to:

  • Project a prepared, professional demeanor to interview participants
  • Ask questions in an unbiased way
  • Use probing and clarifying techniques effectively
  • Apply best practices to encourage candid, complete responses

As a student, you get access to IDI Rockstar Pro for practicing your interviewing skills, plus sample IDI recordings, and important reference materials.

See the sample below.
